A successful year towards strategy 2030

With pride, I introduce our VEI Annual Report 2021. 2021 was a successful year to work on the implementation of VEI’s Strategy 2030 “Quality in peer solidarity ”. Strategy 2030 is centered around the improvement of water and sanitation services through long-term Water Operator Partnerships (WOPs) in which utility employees from the Netherlands collaborate with colleagues/peers of partner water utilities in the global South. Despite the challenges of COVID-19 most of the WOP objectives were achieved through the impressive commitment and adaptivity demonstrated by VEI-staff and the 55 partner utilities across the globe.

350,000 people gained access to water
VEI succeeded, through a joint effort of all partners, staff, financiers, and water operators, to create access to sustainable water services delivery for 350,000 people from Africa, Asia, and Latin-America. We also note that rapid population growth in urban centers in combination with the negative impacts of climate change on water resources availability, calls for a step-up in investments towards the SDG6 agenda in 2030.

Please take some time and read in this annual report the impressive work that was done in the WOPs and how ‘peer-to-peer’ interaction continues to be a driver for progress towards access to water and sanitation for all.
